Onwards – Nurturing social responsibility
Since 1974, Sancheti Hospital has been conducting free Polio and Orthopaedic camps across Maharashtra, reaching out to underserved communities with accessible, quality healthcare. These camps provide essential diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation services for bone and joint disorders, especially for those who cannot afford specialized care.
Driven by Dr. K. H. Sancheti’s vision of compassionate medicine, our dedicated team of orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and volunteers continues to serve thousands every year. The MS Ortho and D Ortho courses, launched in affiliation with the then Pune University – now Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) – marked a milestone in orthopaedic education. The Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation (SIOR) was established adjacent to the 50-bed Accident Hospital, marking a significant expansion in orthopaedic healthcare. This 100-bed facility enhanced the hospital’s capacity to cater to a broader range of orthopaedic and trauma patients, offering specialized and comprehensive treatment options.
Designed to provide holistic care, SIOR seamlessly integrated advanced surgical services with in-house physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs, ensuring continuity from treatment to recovery. 1991

Padma Shri Award conferred on Dr K H Sancheti
The Government of India honoured Dr. K. H. Sancheti for his outstanding dedication to improving the lives of physically challenged children in rural Maharashtra. This national recognition celebrated his relentless mission to combat and eradicate polio, bringing specialized orthopaedic care to remote and underserved areas.

To meet the growing need for skilled rehabilitation professionals, Dr. K. H. Sancheti established a Physiotherapy College affiliated with Pune University. The institution was created to provide structured education in physiotherapy, combining academic excellence with practical, hands-on training in patient recovery and mobility restoration.
Understanding the importance of efficient hospital operations, Dr. Sancheti also launched a Hospital Management Diploma course to prepare healthcare administrators and managers. 2003

Dr. K.H. Sancheti bestowed upon Padma Bhushan Award
In 2003, Dr. K. H. Sancheti received the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award, one of India’s highest civilian honours, for his monumental contributions to the field of Orthopaedics. The award was presented by then President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, recognizing Dr. Sancheti’s pioneering role in popularizing orthopaedics and establishing MS Orthopaedics as a distinct medical specialty in India.

Operated first patient with Indus Knee Joint Prosthesis
Beginning in 2001, Dr. K. H. Sancheti led the groundbreaking development of the Indus Knee Joint, India’s first indigenously designed and manufactured knee implant. Driven by his vision of making advanced orthopaedic solutions both accessible and affordable, Dr. Sancheti dedicated countless days and nights to perfecting the design and engineering of the implant.

Started 50-bed Exclusive Joint Replacement Centre
In 2008, Dr. K. H. Sancheti established a state-of-the-art 50-bed Joint Replacement Centre, a milestone in advancing orthopaedic care in India. The center was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Smt. Pratibha Patil, then President of India, marking national recognition of Dr. Sancheti’s pioneering contributions. Dedicated exclusively to joint replacement surgery, the facility was designed to provide high-quality, specialized treatment with cutting-edge technology and expert surgical precision.

Health Tourism Initiated at Sancheti Hospital
This collaboration marked a major milestone in Sancheti Hospital’s international outreach. The agreement facilitated the treatment of Scoliosis and other Orthopaedic patients from Oman at Sancheti Hospital in Pune, reflecting its growing global reputation for excellence in specialized care.
Following this partnership, the hospital witnessed a steady rise in international patients – not only from Oman but also from Yemen, Dubai, Bahrain, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda. The initiative strengthened Sancheti’s standing as a trusted destination for advanced orthopaedic and spine care, combining world-class medical expertise with compassionate, patient-centric treatment for individuals across continents.

Established Sancheti Healthcare Academy
The Sancheti Healthcare Academy (SHA), part of the prestigious Sancheti Group of Hospitals in Pune, was founded as a center of excellence in healthcare education. Created under the vision of Dr. K. H. Sancheti, SHA focuses on nurturing skilled healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines.
The academy offers specialized courses in Hospital Management, Physiotherapy, Nursing, and Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), among others – bridging the gap between theory and practice. Padma Vibhushan award Conferred to Dr. K H Sancheti
Dr. K. H. Sancheti was recognized for developing affordable, high-quality orthopaedic implants like the Indus Knee, Indus Hip Joint, KHS Screws, and SanFixator, revolutionizing orthopaedic accessibility and advancing India’s indigenous medical technology for the greater good.
2012 – OrthoTV Launched
A premier online platform dedicated to advancing orthopaedic education and improving patient outcomes through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and a comprehensive library of educational resources for orthopedic professionals. In continuation also launched the “ORTHO AI PLATFORM” primarily a generative AI like ChatGPT in 2024.
2012 – Sancheti Hospital Partnered with NM Medical
Established a Centre of Excellence for Muskuloskeletal Imaging with 3T MRI (1st Magnetom Spectra in India) & also installed Pune’s first Digital PET with 160 Slice Cardiac CT in collaboration with NM Medical in 2024.
2014-2016

Global Reach
Dr. Parag Sancheti has been instrumental in elevating Sancheti Hospital’s international reputation through his leadership, academic excellence, and global collaborations. In 2014, he was awarded the Honorary FRCS Degree by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, a recognition reserved for surgeons of outstanding professional distinction.
Strengthening global medical exchange, he was also appointed as a visiting faculty member at McMaster University, Canada, contributing to advanced orthopaedic education and research. Further cementing his global impact, in 2016, he received a Doctor of Laws (Ph.D.) honorary degree from the University of Dundee, UK, acknowledging his exceptional service to orthopaedics and medical education worldwide.
